Finally there is the responsibility to participate in the communities that emerge from each of these components. We not only build places, but we engage them as citizens, neighbors, participants. We express our architecture not just in the things we build, but in the actions we take within our community.
Our skills and talents are not just a means to derive income. They are the special and unique tools that we offer to our neighbors to improve lives and enhance lifestyles. Those skills can be used to shape policy, generate vision, spawn relationships within communities and otherwise add to the life and vibrance of a place, often in non-architectural ways.
We feel obligated to participate, to add to what others have added before us. And to inspire those that follow to make their mark as well. We aren't satisfied simply consuming. We are driven to help shape, help make the places we live.
